LA County Jail
Since 1998, Leroy D. Bach has sustained the position of Sheriff for the LA County Jail. He has been continually elected to hold this position to continue serving the LA County Jail system. The jails of LA are temporary and sometimes permanent homes to an approximated 19,000 inmates on any given day. The LA County Jail consists of multiple locations. Inmates are housed in different facilities depending on the crime committed or charge pending.
Whether you’re working with the LA County Jail or Sacramento County Jail – it is a traumatic experience for anyone involved. Having a loved one imprisoned or awaiting trial can cause one's imagination to run rampant. Individuals who are imprisoned have already been charged guilty for the crime committed. Those who are held in jail await sentencing from the judge, and are most often times able to post bail.
Waiting for sentencing can be psychologically taxing on anyone, especially if they are innocent. If your friend or loved one is available for bail, there are many facilities able to accommodate the release of the person being detained. On some occasions, bail is not an option. If you have the option for bail and have the financial resources to see it through, bail may be the best option.

If you have never been to jail, you can only relate to hand me down stories passed along from those who have. If you have experienced jail before you know what it can be like. Imagine getting arrested and only getting one phone call. The one person you try to call is unable to be reached. You have exhausted your one phone call. Now you are stuck in jail waiting for someone to tell you what's next. Chances are your friends and family are wondering where you are. Your mother is probably worried sick because you didn't answer your cell phone. Next thing you know, you're being handed a plate of what somebody told you was food.
The meals offered in jail and prison spare both the salt and the sugar. They are bland in taste, limited in calories and less than delectable. All meals served behind bars are typically prepared in large quantities, potentially days in advance. The pre-made meals are “blast chilled” for long term storage. Once they are ready to be served, the meals are removed from chilling and are reheated.
As an inmate, having the ability to purchase snacks and other goods within the jail is a highlight. Hence, if you know someone in the LA city jail system, you can send funds to them. This money can be spent on items like spices to jazz up the neutral tasting food served, hygiene products and writing utensils. These items are most often times used for bartering amongst the prisoners.
Current television shows broadcast dramatic scenes that give us insight as to what the prison experience can be like. It is essential to know that an individual being held in a jail system is not the same as being held in prison. Some say they prefer prison over jail because jail lacks the amenities provided in prison. When you are in jail, you lose your everyday freedoms. Phone calls are restricted or even prohibited, the food is less than appetizing and the beds are said to be uncomfortable.
The LA city jail system is only a piece to one of the largest policing systems in the nation. If you take into consideration the population of the LA city jails, it is large enough to be recognized as its own township. Having such a high number of inmates, it's difficult to locate information or even the person that you are looking for. For starters, it is crucial to know that men and women, convicted or temporarily detained, are housed in different buildings.

Individuals charged with theft will not be housed with individuals charged with murder.
Each jailing facility has its own schedule for visiting hours. Check online or with the facility by phone before attempting to show up in person. There are specific requirements that must be met if you want to visit a loved one or a friend at any of the above mentioned locations. Requirements include but are not limited to: the age of the visitor, specifics on the dress code and other quirks such as bringing quarters to lock personal items while on site.
